THE mystery of the Piano Man's identity could soon be solved after police narrowed down a list of possible names to just three.

More than 1,000 calls and 200 emails poured in from all over the world to the National Missing Persons Helpline.

Detectives whittled down a list of more than 30 possible identities.

A spokesman for the Police National Missing Persons Bureau said: "We have narrowed down the list to three or four very potential ones which we are looking at more closely than any others.

"However, it will still be a while before everyone is entirely satisfied that we have solved the mystery of who the Piano Man is."

The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found dripping wet in a dinner suit by two police officers near a beach in Sheerness, Kent, on April 7.

He has not spoken but stunned medical staff with his virtuoso piano skills.

There is now a piano in his room at Little Brook Hospital in Dartford, Kent, for music therapy.
